Name: Erik
Canon: Dragon Quest XI S
Canon point: Act 2 just as they do the time shenanigans
Age: 19

History:
Orphans, and slaves to the vikings ransacking near Sniflheim, Erik and his sister Mia dream of escape. But when Erik gives Mia a stolen 'pirate king's pendant' for her birthday, Mia thinks escape suddenly seems possible: because the necklace gives her the power to turn everything she touches, living or otherwise, to gold. When he realizes its power, Erik warns her against using it, but greed gets the better of her...

And she is consumed by it. When he finally leaves the vikings, Erik must leave the golden statue Mia has become, forever trapped by her own greed.

Meanwhile Erik wanders the world as a thief, his survivor's guilt weighing on him. The Seer comes to him. They tell him that one day, he will meet the Luminary in a place underground, and that if he is to gain forgiveness, he must help the Luminary fulfill a prophecy. Erik doesn't quite believe it, but the day he finishes digging himself an escape route from Heliodor Castle dungeons, the neighboring cell becomes occupied by a young man who the guards call 'Darkspawn.'

The Luminary.

(This is the player character. 'Eleven' is the name given to this character by the current Luminary player ingame.)

Of course, Erik helps the Luminary escape. He's meant to, after all. After a chase through the sewers below the city, they take a leap of faith from a waterfall. After a long rest, they track down another piece of the prophecy, the Red Orb, and then, with Heliodor Knights on their heels, Erik and the Luminary take the Door of Departure to the Hotto region.

There they meet the twin sages, Serena and Veronica (though Veronica has been cursed to look like a child) and the girls vow to protect the Luminary with their lives per their duty. While they live, they promise, no harm shall come to him.

The party of four continues onward, in search of another legendary piece, the Rainbough, and eventually picks up former-knight-turned-circus-performer named Sylvando, and then a former-princess and former-king turned masked fighters. The king, Rab, is actually the Luminary's grandfather, and Jade was the princess of Heliodor before her father seemingly turned evil. From there, they journey around the world, questing and collecting the colorful orbs that will help them reach the World Tree and unlock the legendary sword with which the Luminary can defeat the evil wizard Mordegon.

At the heart of the World Tree with the Sword of Light just within their grasp--a Heliodor general, Jasper, and Mordegon (possessing King Carnelian) attack. Mordegon uses the Luminary's power to command the Sword of Light for himself and recreate the sword as warped by darkness: the Sword of Shadows.

The World Tree falls. Cities are destroyed. The party is scattered to the wind.

Erik finds himself in a floating island prison and escapes with the help of the healslime Healijah, who seems to know more about Erik than the thief has shared. As Erik is facing a slew of enemies and likely death, the healslime reveals himself to be the Seer and offers Erik an incredible boost in power in exchange for his most precious possession: his memories of Mia, the Luminary, and their friends.

He agrees, pragmatically deciding that he can make new memories, but knowing that he has to survive to do so and to reunite with his friends.

So the amnesiac Erik re-encounters the diminished party while he's looking for food aboard their ship. They are seeking out the colorful Orbs again, now in the hands of Mordegon's most powerful minions. So they set sail for Sniflheim and discover the city is plagued by something turning people into ...gold.

Vikings, cursed into golden skeletons, attack Sniflheim and Erik is captured. After his rescue, in Erik and Mia's old hideaway, the Luminary has flashes of Erik's past via a piece of the World Tree. This retells the siblings' history, specifically of the pendant and its curse, and how Mordegon had released Mia and transformed her into a monster. They storm her golden fortress and after much effort, restore her to herself.

With that resolved, they continue onward to Arboria, the sisters' hometown, at the foot of where the World Tree used to stand. They locate Veronica's presence, but her body disappears into the ether. They then learn that, when the World Tree fell, their survival had all been thanks to Veronica's quick magic and heavy sacrifice.

The group mourns their loss and Serena adopts Veronica's skills and powers as her own, to carry on her memory and their oath to protect the Luminary.

At the summit of the mountain behind the city, they summon the flying whale that served the hero of legend Erdwin. With her help, they fly to Mordegon's castle and battle him and win, claiming his Sword of Shadows. The world is still not perfect, but the people can recover.

However, they learn of a way that they might save Veronica, prevent the World Tree from falling, and save the world from ever falling into darkness. Following up on this lead, they learn from the Timekeeper that they can reverse time, go back to the moments before everything went wrong. But only the Luminary can do it, anything could go wrong, and once he has sent himself back in time, no one else will know of this timeline. Unwilling to lose him so soon after they have lost Veronica, the party begs him not to, then relents to his determination. As they bid him farewell, he smashes the time sphere with the Sword of Shadows.

Personality: 4-6 bullet points focusing on the character's trait and its nuances

Per the wiki: "Despite his gruff exterior, Erik has a kind heart. He doesn't always believe everything he is told, even from a prophet, but he is willing to admit when he is wrong and do what is right for the good of others. He is described as "slightly nihilistic"."

Comes off as tough and cool - He's been through it and from the time he left Mia in that hideaway (5 years ago) until he settled in with the Luminary and party, he's kind of been alone. Sure, he's teamed up with people, but he's a thief: being cool, tough, and streetsmart is a way to survive.

Devoted - Once he found the Luminary, Erik has been a devoted companion and 100% all in. In fact, most if not all of his character titles have something to do with being the Main Character's friend: "Eleven's Pal," "Luminary's Bosom Buddy," etc. He knows he has to help the Luminary in order to gain forgiveness, and though he later expresses that maybe he wasn't always sure it was going to work out, he went for it. For Mia, for his guilt, and because he's as much a devoted brother as he is a devoted friend.

A little shit. - His cool-guy attitude sometimes comes with smart-ass remarks, and he and Veronica tend to bicker. So much so that when the memoryless Erik is polite, a bit timid, and apologetic on the ship, Sylvando remarks that he wished Veronica were here to see it ("He's lost his memory and gained some manners! I wish Veronica were here to see this—she'd die!" ...that comment aged well).

Compassionate. - Often his Party Talk moments reveal his inner sentiment, or his kindness. When consulted about Michelle, for example, he suggests telling her the truth, because "If someone I loved spent their whole life all on their own cause of me...I wouldn't be able to forgive myself." But he's also considerate of the position it puts Eleven in, suggesting he won't hold it against the hero if he can't tell her.

Always Keep In Mind:

Erik may talk a good game, but he tends to be more thoughtful and kind than he initially lets on.

Questions: Write an IC answer to the following questions:

What do you want to study at Diatu Magicademy?
I don't know. I mean, I didn't really do magic back where I'm from. I have like, maybe, a coupla earth magicks, but that's it, and that's fine by me.

...Actually?

...Do, uh, any of those classes deal with healing magic? Maybe something to reverse curses. Or the kind of stuff you'd use if one of your party members goes down? Or, I don't know, something that makes a shield or ward to protect the people you care about? I could go in for that sort of thing.

If you knew you could go back to the moment you left, would you leave immediately or continue your studies for a while?

El just went back in time to right everything. The world's looking ...okayish right now for most people, but if El going back in time will prevent Veronica from dying and the World Tree from falling, then-- there's not much more I can do on my side of the timeline. But how's this all work, you know? The Timekeeper could only fill us in on so much. So, like, if I don't go back home, will El find me missing in the past-turned-alternate-timeline? Or will I just be missing in the timeline I was in? ...I don't know, man, it's making my head hurt just trying to wrap around it.

If El's here, I'm staying here. Soon as he's gone, I should probably go too, because that's what I was sent to do: find the Luminary and stick by him.

If your enemy was at Diatu Magicademy, how would you react?

Well, that depends on which enemy. If it's Henrick before he comes to his senses, just keep him away from El, I guess, until his 'Darkspawn' this, and 'Darkspawn' that cools off. If it's Mordegon, then we'd better prepare for a fight. That guy is seriously bad news, World Tree or no World Tree.

When is it acceptable to resolve a dispute by force?

When they leave you no other choice. Look, sometimes you can't talk your way out of something and just have to clobber a guy on the head and lock him in a closet. Or fight a dark wizard. Or whatever. There are plenty of times a knife or your fist comes in handy, and if someone's threatening someone you care about, or threatening the world, then they might not leave you much of a choice.

What should the supreme goal of any wizard be?

Not to turn evil, probably. I mean, I'd prefer if they didn't turn evil, you know?

Special Considerations

Your Special Something: An item of power might be interesting, since he does tend to acquire/steal items, but either is good.

Rank Your House Choice: Valhudor (the musical element is kind of funny because fellow party member Serena uses a harp for some skills), Ka, or Random

Items: Please provide a brief description of items belonging to your character that could appear during the course of weird events or the like.

Knives, boomerangs, and swords - his primary weapons. He's capable of double-wielding.
The Pirate King's Pendant - wearer can turn any object they touch into gold… Careful, it'll curse you!
The Red Orb - it won't do him any good here, but it's basically a shiny red dragonball like gem and it's part of what he stole to help the Luminary

Anything Else:
Fairly fresh off their loss of Veronica, and without either of the twins here (and since he's got to learn magic anyway), Erik's request about healing magic, wards, or revival magic is his attempt to assume some of the duties of the sisters, honor Veronica's memory in his own way, and prevent that kind of thing from ever happening again. I realize healing magic isn't exactly on the agenda, but glyphics wards might do?
